Why Goodson Steemer Gets Carpet Cleaner
Professional carpet cleaning starts before the extraction wand touches the carpet.
We apply a professional pre-spray designed to loosen the different types of soil that become attached to carpet fibers.
Ground-in dirt: Ethoxylated alcohols act as surfactants. They help the cleaning solution spread through the carpet fibers and release embedded soil so it can be removed during extraction.
Grease and oily buildup: 2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)ethanol is a glycol-ether cleaning solvent that helps dissolve greasy and oily residue that water alone has difficulty breaking down.
Food spills and residue: Sodium 1-octanesulfonate helps loosen oily food residue and keep the broken-down soil suspended in the cleaning solution so it can be carried away during extraction.
The goal is simple: break the bond between the soil and the carpet fiber before we extract it.
Hot-Water Extraction at the Carpet
After the pre-treatment has had time to work, we use our truck-mounted hot-water extraction system.
Our cleaning process delivers approximately 190°F at the carpet, helping the cleaning chemistry work while the extraction system rinses and removes loosened dirt, grease, food residue, and cleaning solution.
The process works in three stages:
Chemistry loosens the soil. Heat supports the cleaning process. Extraction removes what has been released from the carpet.
That combination is what allows us to clean more than just the visible surface.
Heavy Traffic Areas and Ground-In Soil
Hallways, family rooms, stairs, entryways, and areas around furniture often collect more soil than the rest of the carpet.
Repeated foot traffic pushes fine dirt and oily residue deeper into the fibers. Over time, those areas can begin to look darker or duller than the surrounding carpet.
We pre-treat traffic lanes and heavily soiled areas before extraction so the cleaning chemistry has time to work on the buildup before the carpet is rinsed.
Carpet Stains and Spots
Coffee, food, drinks, tracked-in soil, and everyday spills do not all respond to the same treatment.
We inspect visible spots and stains and use professional spotting products when additional treatment is appropriate.
Some stains are located only in the carpet fiber, while others may have traveled deeper into the backing or padding. That is why identifying the type of spot is an important part of professional carpet cleaning.
Why Can a Carpet Stain Come Back After Cleaning?
If a spot disappears during cleaning and later shows back up as the carpet dries, that may be wicking. We explain why this happens and what can be done about it on our Carpet Wicking page.
Pet Odor Treatment
Pet urine and severe pet odors require a different process than normal carpet cleaning.
For information about those treatments, visit our Pet Odor Removal page to learn how Goodson Steemer handles deeper odor contamination.
Upholstery Cleaning in Canton
Goodson Steemer also provides professional cleaning for sofas, loveseats, chairs, sectionals, dining chairs, and other upholstered furniture.

Cleaning is not always the only thing a carpet needs.
Goodson Steemer also provides carpet repair and stretching services for problems such as loose carpet, wrinkles, damaged areas, and certain carpet defects.
